Signed serigraph / screen print by Corita Kent, also known also as Sister Mary Corita. The piece is hand signed in pencil and beautifully framed.

Corita was part of the Roman Catholic order of the sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and was later a professor of art at the Immaculate Heart college in LA for 20 years. Known for her distinct pop art style using advertising icons to create messages of social righteousness and to speak out about war, poverty, and racism. This 1967 work, Tomato, is a follow up to her earlier work 'The Juiciest Tomato of All' in 1964 that led to rifts within the Catholic community and some calling her work desecrations. Samuel Eisenstein was a writing professor who visited the college in 1964 and whose letter to Corita inspired both Tomato pieces.

The piece measures (including the frame) 36.5" wide x 24.5" tall

Ships Free to the continental US, fully insured and will be packed in a custom artwork box. Please request an exact quote before purchasing outside the US.
