Signed Etching A. Lafitte, Alphonse Lafitte (1872-1936)
Signed Etching A. Lafitte, Alphonse Lafitte (1872-1936)
Etching by Manuel Robbe (b.1972-d.1932, French). Robbe used the pseudonym Alphonse Lafitte during the 1920's when his work differed greatly from the portraits of ladies he made earlier in his career. ' Lafitte' was used for landscapes and seascapes mainly along the coastal area of French Brittany. He is credited for the invention of sugar aquatint technique which allowed the work to appear watercolor like and resembled impressionist style painting.
